mainly from the Juniper Ridge Fire Opal
Mine. These gems range in grade from "Good", "Fine", and "Extra
Fine" and in colors that range from light yellow to orange,
reddish-orange,
red-orange/orange-red, to nearly "Cherry Red". Most of the
material is a yellow to orange "Good" grade with a slight haze,
but cuts into
attractive affordable gems. The Oregon material is
available in larger sizes than can be obtained from most other sources.
Nevada
Fire Opal Gems These
gems
are mainly from various mines in the Virgin Valley area. The
grades range from "Good" through "Extra Fine". The colors are
primarily orange, reddish-orange, and near "Cherry Red".
The transparency tends to be be very good.
Mexican
Fire Opal Gems These
gems are from unspecified Mexican
locations,and are mostly orange to reddish-orange in color. They
are
smaller in size, and the grades are generally "Good to Fine" to
"Fine". Although generally smaller, the high transparency
of the Mexican material results in very bright and colorful gems.
